During recent years there has been an increase in the referral pattern for surgery for non-rheumatic calcific mitral stenosis (CMS). Valve replacement for this condition presents some unique challenges, yet the management of CMS remains inadequately described.

Herein are discussed the techniques and outcomes of surgery for CMS.
