Influence of Valve Replacement on Plasma Endothelin-1 Level in Mitral Stenosis
Grazyna Snopek MD, Hanna Pogorzelska PhD, Jerzy Korewicki PhD

Long-lasting mitral stenosis leads to pathomorphological changes in the pulmonary circulation and promotes endothelial dysfunction, leading to increased endothelin levels. After valve replacement, despite significant improvement in hemodynamic parameters at rest, plasma endothelin levels remain high. Increased endothelin levels are related to low pulmonary arterial compliance and poor exercise tolerance.
