Casaratto MD, Gino Gerosa MD Cryopreserved aortic and pulmonary valves and roots were subjected to comparative mechanical studies. Although both valve types had similar mechanical properties, pulmonary roots were 30% more distensible than aortic valves when loaded to aortic pressures. We conclude that the pulmonary valve can withstand aortic pressures, but will undergo considerable geometric changes when placed in the aortic position. |
