| Significant Increase of Aortic Root Volume
and Commissural Area Occurs prior to Aortic Valve Opening David C. Pang, Suk Jung Choo, Hong He Luo, Y. U. Shomura, Suresh Daniel, Srdjan Nikolic, David T. Cheung, James H. Oury, Carlos M. G. Duran Increased use of an autogeneic, homogeneic and xenogeneic aortic root demands a better understanding of its anatomy and function. Our results show that the aortic root volume increases by 22% during systole due to the outward expansion of the commissures. This expansion determines the early aortic valve opening before ejection. These findings point towards the importance of an expansile aortic root. |
