A total of 240 patients who underwent mitral valve replacement either with (group I, n = 168) or without (group II, n = 72) chordal preservation, were assessed for left ventricular (LV) function, LV outflow tract obstruction, and exercise performance at 6 to 32 months postoperatively. Patients with chordal preservation showed improved LV function and better exercise performance. There was no LV outflow tract obstruction in either group.
