The Ultracor Tilting Disc Heart Valve Prosthesis in the Aortic Position:
Mid-Term Follow Up
Yoong K. Sin FRCS, Karen Campbell RN, Ravi Pillai FRCS We have reviewed a total of 94 consecutive patients who underwent aortic valve replacement with the Ultracor valve over a period of nine years. Forty-five patients (48%) had associated procedures, of which 32 (34%) were coronary artery grafts. Total follow up was 229 years and 100% complete. Actuarial estimate of freedom from valve-related death, including operative mortality, was 96% at five years. Actuarial estimate of freedom from valve-related events was 74% at five years. No structural failures or valve thrombosis were observed. With clinical studies showing comparable durability and clinical results of current single disc valves compared with bileaflet valves, further study in this area should concentrate on the impact of valve type on left ventricular recovery post implantation. |
