Heart Rate Variability in Severe Aortic Stenosis
Jose L. Vukasovic MD, Fernando Florenzano MD, Patricia Adriazola MD, Edgardo Escobar MD

Heart rate variability was measured in patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) before and after surgery. This variability is decreased in patients with AS compared with control patients, but is improved after valve replacement. These findings provide evidence that patients with AS have disturbances in their cardiac autonomic function which might be an independent predictor of serious arrhythmic events and sudden death.
