| Posterior Myocardial Infarction Complicated
by Rupture of Posteromedial Papillary Muscle Edward R. Assi DO, Tahir Tak MD The clinical course of a patient with acute posterior myocardial infarction complicated by rupture of the posteromedial papillary muscle is presented. The physical findings, echocardiographic and angiographic data are discussed. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was inadequate in elucidating the etiology of mitral regurgitation (MR). However, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) provided excellent preoperative images of a ruptured posteromedial papillary muscle. The patient subsequently underwent successful mitral valve replacement and is doing well eight months after surgery. |
