Ronald C. Elkins MD, Mary M. Lane PhD, Carolyn McCue RN, Kent E. Ward MD
Mid- and long-term results of pulmonary autograft root replacement of the aortic valve, first performed in1974, have not been established. A total of 244 operative survivors had an actuarial survival rate of 98 ± 2% at 5 years and 86 ± 9% at 10 years. Actuarial freedom from replacement of the autograft valve was 98 ± 1% at 5 years and 96 ± 3% at 10 years. Actuarial freedom from reoperation on the homograft valve was 92 ± 3% at 10 years. Actuarial freedom from late valve-related morbidity was 91 ± 4% at 5 years and 84 ± 6% at 10 years. The Ross root replacement has a low risk of autograft valve degeneration, autograft valve reoperation and valve-related complications at 10 years.
